At Home Again

After spending a wonderful week with  DD#1  (& extended family) on the Gold Coast for her big "0" birthday... I finally got to finish off a community quilt.
This one was the Q-A-Y-G (long arm version) that I made before I flew out.
Several ladies asked "how do you join them"... well you don't actually...
you cover the side edges with a strip of fabric then add a long strip between rows.
The binding was sewn on yesterday & the label was added last night.
This youths snuggle quilt measure 30in x 50in,

I'M LoVinG PLaYinG WiTH...

-new to me- technique on Teena (my long arm) by piecing & quilting as you go.
It's made the same way a "Log Cabin" block is sewn together & I picked this idea up from Leanne Harvey. I really like the way you get to play with left over strips & lots of beautiful colours.
This toddler quilt will be a 3 x 5 (10 inch) block layout measuring 30 inch x 50 inch & is a test run to see if I like this method of making a quilt.

Back At It... &... FNwF

After a wonderful month long gathering of our Canadian family...
I took the opportunity to get back into the cubbyhole & practising on Teena.
First finish for April was a "panel" that I'll donate as a community quilt.
Using another panel of the same design...
this time however I used a wavy ruler on Teena.
I'm very happy with this one & my first "ruler" attempt on this machine.
Another Community quilt made using donated fabrics & once again using Teena.
It's a strip pieced technique & it's made completely on the long arm.
This time I quilted a "flower" design & lots of straight lines.
The picture doesn't do this one justice as it looks really good.
I used my time at FNwF to stitch the labels on the above three quilts.
I hope you all had a successful time at FNwF too.

A FeW ITeMs

The appliqué charity quilt called  Mother Goose Nursey Rhymes  by Kookaburra Cottage Quilts is now a flimsy after deciding NoT to add the borders.
It's going to a Pre School as a wall hanging so the size without borders is perfect.
I'll be giving it to our Guild to finish it now - well after a good PRESS anyways...
but I'll get it back to add the binding.

I was asked to make an adult Book Pillow for DD#2 friend.
This one measures 20 inch square & has a zip closing back.

And after playing on TeeNa... I pieced & used the quilt-as-you-go method on the long arm frame, to make a quilt. Using my electronic channel lock was a dream & so I used lots of straight lines to get quality practise. The tension was great & the FMQ was simple but very acceptable, so for my FiRST attempt using a long arm I was EXTReMeLy pleased.
